Attack on Titan is an epic anime with a wealth of characters to exemplify the 16 personality types. However, not every character seems worth dedicating a detailed analysis article to, even if the character is fairly well established. Therefore, so you can still learn the personality types of these other characters (or at least our theory of them, anyway), we’re writing this cumulative article: The 16 Personality Types Through Attack On Titan

Basically, we’re going to list off examples of each of the 16 personality types within Attack on Titan. We’ll highlight one in particular that we believe exemplifies that personality type the best within the series, but we’ll list off any other examples we have at the bottom of each type’s section. Of course, we will include links to each character’s individual analysis (assuming one’s been written), if you wish to explore that character’s type further. Obviously, some characters have been left out because we didn’t type literally every character in that show, but the main ones should all be here. You’re welcome to share your thoughts in the comments.

Before you continue on, this is probably where we should admit that we didn’t actually find all 16 types. We got close. Sorry. What’s there is there, and what’s not is not. You’ll see which are missing as you scroll on down the page.

The 16 Personality Types Through Attack On Titan

ISTP – Levi Ackerman

Levi is cool-headed and rational. He follows his own logic, and encourages others to think for themselves. Quick to react in the moment, Levi excels at doing whatever is necessary to get the job done. He’s willing to break the rules, or question authority, if the situation calls for it. He trusts his instincts, has a propensity for physical violence, and keeps himself distant from others.

ESTP – Kenny Ackerman

“Go on living for the sake of drawing breath? That doesn’t sound like any kind of life to me.”

Kenny is a ruthless individual in pursuit of power, who often acts jovial in spite of his sinister nature. He expresses a desire for a fun life, generally does whatever he wants, and prefers to remain emotionally detached. He hates cowards, expresses respect toward those who have earned it, and demonstrates a basic loyalty toward his family, in the way he temporarily steps up to ensure young Levi’s survival.

INTP – Zeke YaegerZeke Yaeger

“That could be the case. Perhaps this man should be grateful to his father. It was his miserable upbringing that exposed him to the truth, of the ongoing threat that Eldea poses to the world.”

Zeke is level-headed and intelligent. He’s good at thinking strategically to determine the best course of action, the one that maintains his cover yet progresses his goal. In spite of his dedication to his goal, he often presents himself as detached, keeping emotions out of it. He’s calm and rational, and emphasizes thinking things through and learning from the past.

ENTP – NONE

While many consider Hange to be an ENTP, we actually have a slightly different theory, which will be presented further down the page.

ISTJ – Mikasa Ackerman

“Once we’ve retaken Wall Maria and defeated every last one of our enemies, can we go back to how things used to be?”

Mikasa is strong-willed and intensely loyal. She’s a remarkably talented soldier, demonstrating not only physical ability but a decisive and determined nature. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, willing to stand up to anyone if deemed necessary. However, while presenting herself as stoic and even cynical, she is sentimental at heart, wishing for a time long past when things were simpler and happier.

ESTJ – Floch Forster

“If this is the price of serving humanity within the walls, then so be it.”

Floch is intense and opinionated, committed to speaking the truth no matter the emotional implications. He sees Eren’s plan as the only effective way to save Paradis from the rest of the world. As a result, he quickly aligns with him, and takes up a leadership role. He’s extremely decisive, quick to take action, and relies heavily on fear and threats to get what he wants and keep everyone in line.

INTJ – Jean KirsteinJean INTJ

“All I can think about is how it’ll end, which one of us is next, and whether it’ll be me.”

He despises impulsive behavior, often referring to Eren (and anyone like him) as a “suicidal maniac.” Jean values effectiveness, and excels at making judgement calls on the battlefield. ISFJ – Bertholdt HooverBertholdt Hoover

“You’ll always be my dear comrades, right up until I kill you.”

Bertholdt is often quiet and withdrawn. As one who struggles to take initiative, Bertholdt sticks closely to Reiner, obeying his every command. During his final battle, he is able to detach from his own emotions, summon indifference, and dedicate his entire being to fulfilling his duty.

ESFJ – Reiner BraunReiner Braun

“You saw what those monsters are capable of, and you still want to take them on? I know you’ve got what it takes. I can see it in you. Am I wrong here?”

As a young child, Reiner is driven by a desire to unite his family. Once that’s deemed impossible, he moves on, becoming a leader of the group sent to infiltrate Paradis. He incorporates elements of a fallen comrade’s personality into his own, in order to become the ideal leader. Amongst those within the walls, he presents himself as a likeable, big brother that people can look up to. He’s empathetic, intelligent, respectful, decisive, and loyal.

Other Examples: Falco Grice

INFJ – Armen ArlertArmen Arlert

“I may be naive, but there’s one thing I know beyond all doubt: Genuine harbingers of change must be able to do what others won’t dare. Sacrifice their heart. Accept the burden of doing the unspeakable. Whether we’d like to admit it or not, the fact is this: to rise above monsters, we have to abandon our humanity. That’s the irony, really. If you can’t let it go, it’s not worth holding onto.”

Armin is imaginative, cautious, and future-oriented. He dreams of seeing spectacular sights beyond the walls, which drives him to join the Scouts and fight for humanity’s freedom. Although initially insecure about his physical abilities, Armin proves himself to be an invaluable asset due to his talent for strategic thinking. He’s empathetic and respectful, yet capable of cruel emotional manipulation when dealing with enemies.
