The 16 Personality Types Through Attack On Titan
Attack on Titan is an epic anime with a wealth of characters to exemplify the 16 personality types. However, not every character seems worth dedicating a detailed analysis article to, even if the character is fairly well established. Therefore, so you can still learn the personality types of these other characters (or at least our theory of them, anyway), weโre writing this cumulative article: The 16 Personality Types Through Attack On Titan
Basically, weโre going to list off examples of each of the 16 personality types within Attack on Titan. Weโll highlight one in particular that we believe exemplifies that personality type the best within the series, but weโll list off any other examples we have at the bottom of each typeโs section. Of course, we will include links to each characterโs individual analysis (assuming oneโs been written), if you wish to explore that characterโs type further. Obviously, some characters have been left out because we didnโt type literally every character in that show, but the main ones should all be here. Youโre welcome to share your thoughts in the comments.
Before you continue on, this is probably where we should admit that we didnโt actually find all 16 types. We got close. Sorry. Whatโs there is there, and whatโs not is not. Youโll see which are missing as you scroll on down the page.
The 16 Personality Types Through Attack On Titan
ISTP โ Levi Ackerman
โTake my advice, Eren. Calm down and use your head. The best survival tool is your brain.โ
Levi is cool-headed and rational. He follows his own logic, and encourages others to think for themselves. Quick to react in the moment, Levi excels at doing whatever is necessary to get the job done. Heโs willing to break the rules, or question authority, if the situation calls for it. He trusts his instincts, has a propensity for physical violence, and keeps himself distant from others.

ESTP โ Kenny Ackerman
โGo on living for the sake of drawing breath? That doesnโt sound like any kind of life to me.โ
Kenny is a ruthless individual in pursuit of power, who often acts jovial in spite of his sinister nature. He expresses a desire for a fun life, generally does whatever he wants, and prefers to remain emotionally detached. He hates cowards, expresses respect toward those who have earned it, and demonstrates a basic loyalty toward his family, in the way he temporarily steps up to ensure young Leviโs survival.
Other Examples: Ymir
INTP โ Zeke Yaeger
โThat could be the case. Perhaps this man should be grateful to his father. It was his miserable upbringing that exposed him to the truth, of the ongoing threat that Eldea poses to the world.โ
Zeke is level-headed and intelligent. Heโs good at thinking strategically to determine the best course of action, the one that maintains his cover yet progresses his goal. In spite of his dedication to his goal, he often presents himself as detached, keeping emotions out of it. Heโs calm and rational, and emphasizes thinking things through and learning from the past.
ENTP โ NONE
While many consider Hange to be an ENTP, we actually have a slightly different theory, which will be presented further down the page.
ISTJ โ Mikasa Ackerman
โOnce weโve retaken Wall Maria and defeated every last one of our enemies, can we go back to how things used to be?โ
Mikasa is strong-willed and intensely loyal. Sheโs a remarkably talented soldier, demonstrating not only physical ability but a decisive and determined nature. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, willing to stand up to anyone if deemed necessary. However, while presenting herself as stoic and even cynical, she is sentimental at heart, wishing for a time long past when things were simpler and happier.
ESTJ โ Floch Forster
โIf this is the price of serving humanity within the walls, then so be it.โ
Floch is intense and opinionated, committed to speaking the truth no matter the emotional implications. He sees Erenโs plan as the only effective way to save Paradis from the rest of the world. As a result, he quickly aligns with him, and takes up a leadership role. Heโs extremely decisive, quick to take action, and relies heavily on fear and threats to get what he wants and keep everyone in line.
Other examples: Keith Sadies
INTJ โ Jean Kirstein
โAll I can think about is how itโll end, which one of us is next, and whether itโll be me.โ
Jean is constantly concerned with understanding what is going on and anticipating what will come next. He despises impulsive behavior, often referring to Eren (and anyone like him) as a โsuicidal maniac.โ Jean values effectiveness, and excels at making judgement calls on the battlefield. He can be arrogant and self-conceited, yet often puts down his own desires for the sake of the mission or doing what is right.

ENTJ โ Erwin Smith
โThere are times to be strict and times to be flexible. Uphold the principles of your vows. Do what it takes to win. Follow the chain of command, and keep your eyes fixed on the path to victory.โ
Erwin is a gifted leader and an excellent strategist. He fixates on his goal, and commands the Scouts toward that end, leaving a pile of bodies in his wake. Although his plans are well-thought-out, Erwin frequently takes risks and forms strategies around a gamble, something heโs well known for. Heโs confident, assertive, and intimidating, often stating the facts regardless of the response heโll get.

ISFJ โ Bertholdt Hoover
โYouโll always be my dear comrades, right up until I kill you.โ
Bertholdt is often quiet and withdrawn. As one who struggles to take initiative, Bertholdt sticks closely to Reiner, obeying his every command. Heโs a kind and caring individual, who is conflicted by the role he has to play. However, his loyalty to the mission supersedes his loyalty to his comrades within the walls. During his final battle, he is able to detach from his own emotions, summon indifference, and dedicate his entire being to fulfilling his duty.
ย
ESFJ โ Reiner Braun
โYou saw what those monsters are capable of, and you still want to take them on? I know youโve got what it takes. I can see it in you. Am I wrong here?โ
As a young child, Reiner is driven by a desire to unite his family. Once thatโs deemed impossible, he moves on, becoming a leader of the group sent to infiltrate Paradis. He incorporates elements of a fallen comradeโs personality into his own, in order to become the ideal leader. Amongst those within the walls, he presents himself as a likeable, big brother that people can look up to. Heโs empathetic, intelligent, respectful, decisive, and loyal.
Other Examples: Falco Grice
INFJ โ Armen Arlert
โI may be naive, but thereโs one thing I know beyond all doubt: Genuine harbingers of change must be able to do what others wonโt dare. Sacrifice their heart. Accept the burden of doing the unspeakable. Whether weโd like to admit it or not, the fact is this: to rise above monsters, we have to abandon our humanity. Thatโs the irony, really. If you canโt let it go, itโs not worth holding onto.โ
Armin is imaginative, cautious, and future-oriented. He dreams of seeing spectacular sights beyond the walls, which drives him to join the Scouts and fight for humanityโs freedom. Although initially insecure about his physical abilities, Armin proves himself to be an invaluable asset due to his talent for strategic thinking. Heโs empathetic and respectful, yet capable of cruel emotional manipulation when dealing with enemies.

ENFJ โ Dot Pixis
โBut as a symbol, as an idea, Trost regained shall stand as a reclamation of pride and hope beyond measure, a leap greater than we have ever taken.โ
Pixis is nontraditional and an exceptional leader. Heโs greatest concern is for the fate of humanity, and everything he does is with that mind. Heโs socially adept, willing to flatter authority figures and lower himself around them. However, he readily stands up to anyone who represents a threat to humanity, although his actions are careful and calculated in that regard because of the value he places on human life.

ISFP โ NONE
While many consider Eren to be an ISFP, we have a different theory, which can you can read below.
ESFP โ Eren Yaeger
โWeโre born free, all of us. Free. Some donโt believe it. Some try to take it away. To h**l with them!โฆFight to live! Risk it all for even a glimmer of real freedom!โ
Eren is impulsive and passionate, driven by an intense desire for freedom. He determines from a very young age to join the Scouts so he can explore beyond the walls and fight for their right to live. Not being one to overthink things, Eren is predominantly action-oriented, willing to take risks whenever necessary. By the end of the series, he takes extreme measures in order to ensure the survival and freedom of those he cares about.

Other Examples: Sasha Blouse, Gabi Braun
INFP โ Grisha Yaeger
โYou know the only reason Faye isnโt alive now is because the world is such a sick and twisted place! We need to fight and fix the world so that no one will ever have to meet her fate again!โ
Grisha is idealistic, naive, and passionate. Due to profound feelings of loss and anger, he takes up the cause of the Restorationists, becoming a prominent figure amongst them. Unfortunately, he focuses so heavily on his personal mission, that he fails to discern the emotional wellbeing of those around him. He becomes overly rigid, trying to force his ideals onto his son, Zeke, and it has tragic consequences.
ENFP โ Hange Zoe
โBut we learn as we go. Knowledge is always worth the risk. I believe that.โ
Hange is intelligent, curious, and talkative, prone to rambling and sharing long, detailed explanations of her current projects. Sheโs highly motivated by a desire for knowledge, finding her research on Titans to be fascinating, although she forms strange emotional attachments to her subjects. Hange is deeply loyal to Erwin, often taking an absolute stance on sticking to his plans exactly. Later, she proves herself to also be an effective leader, commanding the respect of those around her.

Nice analysis on each character!,
Most of the typings makes sense to me and i agree with alot of them. Hange being an Enfp is quite interesting though. Are there other reasons as to why sheโs using Fi-Te ? Iโd like to know your thoughts on that. Thanks!
Hey, so, Hange doesnโt get fleshed out super well, so ENTP is a possibility that Iโm open to. She is in a stereotypically NTP role, with the experiments and such, so itโs easy to see her as that type. However, Iโll share a few things I noticed when watching Hange, beyond the emotional attachments she formed to her Titans, etc.
1. โDonโt you dare compare me to them. I would never even dream of killing him.โ
This was a rather sharp reaction to a crack Levi made after Erenโs trial. It looks more like Fi identity to me. It could be Ti, but Ti tends to have an easier time playing into comments like that, unless thereโs maybe a deep-rooted insecurity that he actually thought of her that way.
2. โWell, then thatโs how itโs going to be. Weโre sticking to Commander Erwinโs plan. Got it? So stop babbling and ready the nets.โ
This moment struck me as Te. It was during the attempt to capture the Female Titan in the inner city. Hange wasnโt at all open to any kind of discussion or speculation. She just shut the guy down, and said focus on the plan. One could argue that maybe it wasnโt a good time for discussion, and thatโs possible, but it didnโt strike me that way. They were kind of on stand by at that time.
3. Hange, Eren and group went to visit Keith Sadis. He told them his whole story, and I believe he told them that he resigned to atone. Hange called him on that, and yelled at him, saying that he had actually resigned because he realized he wasnโt a special snowflake and wanted to spare his ego. On Keithโs part, thatโs a Fi motivation, and Hangeโs insight into it could suggest that sheโs on the same wavelength.
