Se:

“My handling of bowls and kitchen utensils is superb!”

“Well, first, we should think about what we can do, right?’

Yui appears to be a dominant extraverted sensor. She was a bit less obvious than some of the others, however, this seems to fit best. While she’s not the boldest of personalities, Yui loves being in the middle of the action. We see her frequently amidst the popular crowd. We see her try to convince the club to go to an all night party, and other similar activities, even during really busy periods in the school year. (An example being the amusement park during season 2.) Yui generally appears really excited at the prospect of any activity. Her love for experiences is further emphasized by small moments such as when she gets multiple dishes of food just so she can take a single bite out of everything.

Yui is generally more physical in nature, and doesn’t have much concept of personal space. She’s shown grabbing Hikigaya and yanking him around. Her instinct, after Hikigaya’s accident, is to thank him by making him homemade sweets, which can suggest Se. She tends to sit too close to Yukino, which points to an Se-Fi desire for closeness and points away from Fe as she doesn’t respect personal boundaries. At one point, she pulls them all in for a picture, later claiming that she wasn’t going to ask because she knew they wouldn’t give her permission. While both those things could also fit an overbearing Fe dom, it does not fit with the rest of her attributes as a whole. Yui is also shown spinning a bowl on her finger while talking to others in the cooking class. She’s very proud of her physical ability in this way.

Yui is somewhat chaotic. She frequently loses her dog, and generally lacks attention to detail, which points away from high Si. Her lack of attention to detail is demonstrated by how terrible she is at following Yukino’s exact cooking directions. In addition, when helping review Zaimokuza’s manuscript, while everyone else stays up late to fulfill the request, Yui doesn’t bother and barely reads any of it, which seems to point away from both high Fe and Si.

Lastly, Yui has a more practical focus. When the Service Club is helping to salvage the Christmas program planning, Yui’s instinct is to focus on what they “can” do, rather than getting lost in ideas. (See quote at the top of this section.)

Fi:

“Instead of forcing ourselves to work together, isn’t it better to have our guests enjoy double the fun? I mean, we’ll be able to see the individuality of the different schools.”

Yui is definitely a feeler. We initially thought maybe an Fe user, but her feelings ultimately seem self-focused. For instance, she forces Yukino and Hikigaya into a picture without permission, knowing they wouldn’t want it. At one point, she’s more physically affectionate with Hikigaya (playing with his hair and hugging his head), but she doesn’t back off when he’s clearly not comfortable with it. This demonstrates a lack of Fe, since she is unbothered by his negative response and continues for her own personal reasons. Yui also finds Hikigaya and Yukino’s sharp and sarcastic banter amusing, which would be less typical for an Fe user

Yui is very empathetic in relation to her close friends, whom she loves spending time with. With Hikigaya specifically, she seems almost impained by the things he subjects himself to. Yui is definitely emotionally intelligent, which is perfectly exemplified in her awareness of the love triangle happening between Hikigaya, Yukino, and herself long before the others are. Yui is also very kind and friendly, even when others are not kind to her.

Her Fi individuality has it’s shining moment when the club is helping to salvage the Christmas program planning. The other school is trying to put together a complex and impressive group effort. She interjects with an opinion about allowing each school to do their own thing, to express their own individuality, rather than forcing everyone to work together.

Te:

Yui generally doesn’t appear very disciplined or structured. (The earlier mentioned review of Zaimokuza’s manuscript also demonstrates this.) However, she admires the brutal honesty of both Hikigaya and Yukino, which could suggest low Te admiration. Yui can be very determined when she wants to be, like when she decides to run for student council. Her Te determines this to be the only solution to prevent the Service Club from being disbanded, so she begins taking steps to enact it.

There is one particular moment that displays her Te rather well while simultaneously indicating a lack of Fe. For one of their requests, she attempts to gossip with a fellow female student in order to gain information, and her attempt is incredibly blunt and to the point. She lacks any Fe subtly or social grace, and directly asks what she wants to know. This direct approach that she seems to default to on occasion is also demonstrated in her decision to confront Yukino and Hikigaya at the end of season 2, in an attempt to find a solution.

Ni:

Yui’s inferior Ni is demonstrated in her go-with-the-flow attitude. She tends to be less concerned with the future and more interested in enjoying the here and now. (For instance, when she would rather go to a fun event in the midst of being really busy at school – concerns which her fellow club members express.) Of course, this all demonstrates low Ni, specifically.

Otherwise, there are moments where Yui expresses Ni-like sentiments about fate and destiny. During the fireworks, she basically states that Hikigaya and herself were fated to meet, because even if he hadn’t saved her dog, they both would have been at that event.
