Fi:

“I put years into crafting my image!”

“At the very least, I choose to be different!”

“It’s not like I’m ready to fight for complete strangers or anything.”

“Why doesn’t anyone blame me for causing mom’s death? It would be so much easier to understand if you all blamed me.”

Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach is an Fi dominant. Initially in the show, it’s fairly obvious that he’s more conscious of self than others. He openly admits that he’s not noble enough to worry about complete strangers, yet he can’t stand by and watch while someone gets hurt. His ability to admit this confidently with no shame in the least suggests that he’s valuing Fi rather than Fe. He also places a high value on his self-image, and being his own unique individual. He is deeply bothered by the mod soul temporarily occupying his body since “How can he be me if I’m me?” He later is angry that the actions the mod soul took within his body ran counter to Ichigo’s carefully crafted image.

Ichigo has very strong values, and gets angry at people who don’t measure up to them. He gave a moral lecture to a hollow (who was trying to kill his former sister out of bitterness) about the role of a brother. He’s also very hard on himself when he fails to protect others, or doesn’t live up to his own standards. One dilemma you can notice at the beginning of the show is that he blames himself for his mother’s death, and can’t understand why no one else does. (Self blame rather than perceiving blame through the eyes of others.)

Ichigo, while sometimes coming across as harsher, is generally empathetic. When he destroys the giant’s axe while invading the Soul Society, he feels bad and attempts to console him, in spite of the guy currently being an enemy. He tells the others that it’s only natural to want to console someone who was crying. Of course, Ichigo tends to have a broody nature, which is a tendency of dominant Fi users. His internal hollow also accuses him of essentially overthinking in battle and failing to act purely on base instincts, which lines up perfectly with a dominant introvert, who is hesitating to act due to looking inward first.

Se:

“You don’t have to go into the details. If you’re saying there’s no other way it can be done, then I’ve gotta do it.

“I don’t believe in anything I can’t see.”

“For a human this guy sure takes chances.” – Jinta

“We can’t waste time worrying about what-ifs. Failure is no longer an option.”

Ichigo’s primary way of dealing with the world is through extraverted sensing. Basically, any time that he doesn’t have to check his action against his internal values, he will immediately jump into action. This leads him to very quickly get into fights with anyone that says something he doesn’t like. Frequently, someone will say something against him, and not a minute later, they are at each other’s throats or outside fighting about it. In other scenarios, when he sees something he deems as wrong, he does not hesitate to spring into action, like when he sees Don Kanonji trying to break the chain on the demi hollow (which ultimately turns into a complete hollow).

Other proofs of his Se is the way that he nicknames different people. Upon first meeting Urahara, he names him Mr. Hat-and-Clogs because that is literally what he was wearing at the time. When arguing with Uryu about what happened with the Quincys, he tries to say that what happened in the past doesn’t matter and has nothing to do with things now. This points to Se as it tends to value what is happening in the present moment over what has happened in the past. In another instance, Ichigo’s big plan for dealing with the giant Menos Grande is to simply keep hitting it until it gets short enough to wack its head.

Generally speaking, Ichigo focuses on what’s right in front of him. He doesn’t believe in things that he can’t see, and he’s not interested in what he deems to be pointless speculation or “what-ifs”.

Ni:

“You’ll find that Ichigo has an uncanny knack for forgetting people’s faces and the names that go with ’em.”

“Just instinct.”

A lot of the evidence for Ichigo’s Ni comes from the way he just expects the answers to things to come to him. He usually isn’t too wrapped up in finding a clear answer, trusting mostly on his instincts and inner values to give him the answers when the time comes. When struggling with dealing with his inner hollow, he is asked why he doesn’t ask for Kisuke’s help and advice. Ichigo simply responds that Kisuke would have already shown him how to deal with it if he had known how to help him. This is an example of an Ni deduction based off of abstract information. He just kind of assumes, because of how much Kisuke generally knows, that he would have said something if he had the solution.

In another point in the show, someone asks Ichigo what his plan is for dealing with a hollow, to which he merely replies “just instinct”. He is trusting that he will be able to recognize a situation when he comes upon it and be able to get the answer then, which seems to point to Ni pattern recognition and abstract internalization. Low Ni (and Te) specifically would make it hard for him to produce and describe a concrete plan. His abstract internalization (and subsequent lack of Si) is also demonstrated by how terrible he is at remembering both names and faces.

Te:

“First of all, why do your drawings suck so bad?”

Ichigo lashes out with his Te whenever confronting a situation that runs counter to his values. He is decisive when he needs to be, and can easily come off as insulting or harsh. For instance, he calls out Rukia for her inadequate drawings. His inferior Te mostly surfaces when he is angry or frustrated, leading him to yell and hurl insults. He usually tries to find the quickest way to pin down the reason for a problem. This usually leads to him pinning the blame for the issue on someone or something.

His Te also surfaces in a somewhat negative way anytime his self image or manliness is put into question. He becomes very visibly upset and harsh when his name is read as ‘Strawberry’ and is then referred to as cute as a result. Inferior Te users hate being viewed as weak or powerless, leading Ichigo to attempt to develop and put forward an image that specifically is masculine.
