Fi:

“This is all for your sake. I’ve killed and left the corpses so you’d know it’s me.”

“You’ve killed people but can’t recognize those crimes as your own.” – Mikiya

Crazy people are always difficult type, so take this somewhat with a grain of salt, but Lio appears to be a really warped Fi dominant. Lio’s background is one of a more introverted and socially awkward kid. In his desire for a deep friendship, he mistakes his friendship with Mikiya to be much deeper than it is. In addition, he falls in love with Shiki, which eventually morphs into an obsession. During one of his first battles with Shiki, he keeps telling her that he understands her better than anyone else, and emphasizes a desire to return her to her true self. These are both Fi tendencies. He desires to gain her validation, and in a sense, tries to turn himself into her, which can be seen as Fi idealization, especially since he fixated on one specific person.

In addition, Lio spends a portion of the series attempting to create someone just like him, desiring to not be alone and to have someone who understands him. Although, later on, he realizes that he cannot truly be special if there are other special people just like him. Lastly, he refuses to recognize his crimes as his own, disassociating himself from the guilt. He openly admits that he is a murderer, but states that he has no choice in the matter. Essentially, he’s saying that he can’t help the way he is – Fi.

Se:

Lio has an animalistic fighting style, which can be in part attributed to his origin. He’s wild and impulsive, and hates it when Shiki won’t fight him with her full strength. He gets a certain thrill from the fighting. However, his Se impulses can be seen prior to his origin being awakened. You can also see Lio’s tendency toward physical action due to how he literally stalked Shiki. In addition, when Shiki rejects him as weak, he translates this into a need to be physically strong, and then goes off and murderers the school bully so that he will no longer be considered weak. The action is done entirely on impulse, prior to him actually having his origin awakened. He then willingly allows Araya to awaken his origin, without any consideration or time to contemplate.

Ni:

“Kokotou, my origin turned out to be ‘devour’. Since this origin of mine is awake, I have no choice but to devour. I’m a bloodthirsty killer who devours people.”

Lio believes himself to be chained by fate, in a sense. He uses his origin as a means to justify his actions, believing that he can be nothing but himself because fate dictates who he will be. Fate has made him a devour-er, so he has no choice but to devour. (This is an example of an Fi-Ni loop. – For the Naruto fans, cross reference to Neji who was in an Ni-Fi loop.) In an early battle with Shiki, you also see him attempting to read into her actions and motivations throughout the conflict, but not necessarily for any strategic purposes. This can be attributed to Ni’s desire to read between the lines.

Te:

Similarly to how dominant Te users hate being seen as weak, inferior Te users have a tendency to fear that they are weak. When Shiki rejects Lio due to him being “weak”, Lio flips out and murders the class bully in order to prove that he is not. This is also a classic case of inferior Te overcompensation. In addition, Lio struggles to be objective. During the series, he is being eaten up by guilt, but refuses to own up to it, trying desperately to attribute his actions to something or someone else.
