Ne:

“Consider, can the universe be justifiably called infinite? Doubtful. It may not have a discernible end, but it had a beginning and its component parts definitely have a limited cosmological shelf-life. Splitting hairs or not, if history tells us anything, it’s that scientists often make very poor poets. We’re all just a ship of fools chasing phantoms, heedless of what really underwrites natural law.”

“I’m attempting to be poetic here. Must you insist on sapping the thunder out of every single utterance?”

Okabe invents a persona and conspiracy plot that he acts within nearly every waking moment (before falling into the grip of Si) to the point where people make cracks about him being delusional. He’s so dedicated to this fantasy world that he’s often heard referencing the “Organization”, seen speaking into a disconnected phone, and etcetera. He’s melodramatic and poetic, frequently speaking in metaphors and flowery language. He’s obsessed with being a mad scientist and initially shows little concern for altering the past, preferring to keep furthering their scientific explorations.

Okabe is easily distracted, eagerly going off on tangents to monologue, and stops to name everything. Finding naming and nomenclature to be important is frequently connect to Ne/Si.

He’s very clearly extraverted. He has little concept for personal space. Much to people’s dismay (usually Makise’s), he’ll grab people, feel someone’s head to check for a fever, touch their face to prove that they’re still alive, and etc. Okabe is also quick to argue, even at a public conference, when he disagrees with something being said. He also frequently inserts himself into situations that would be better off with him just remaining uninvolved. In addition, he rarely struggles with small talk, and is shocked in the rare moments when he does. (Daru even calls him a smooth talker.)

Ti:

“No one knows what the future holds. That’s why its potential is infinite.”

“The universe has a beginning, but no end. — Infinity. Stars, too, have their own beginnings, but their own power results in their destruction. — Finite.”

Okabe uses subjective logic to define reality. He’s shown getting stuck in a logic loop, amidst all of the time leaping, and has to rely on Makise to help him break out to see the bigger picture.  Amidst the whole ordeal, he falls into a state of apathy and begins viewing Mayori’s death as a “puzzle to be solved.” In general, Okabe is deeply bothered when something does not make logical sense, like Daru’s naming convention. Another example can be seen when him and the rest of the lab members get into a huge discussion over what to call D-Mails, and he picks apart every single option presented to him, pointing out how each one is illogical. Okabe is clearly not comfortable with emotions, and is frequently harsh and bossy. He uses science, jokes, and his mad scientist act to deflect from emotional situations. At one point, he’s suddenly sharp with Makise, which scares her and results in her crying.  Confused and surprised, Okabe has to look to another lab member to explain what just happened. His over-eagerness to debate is also a common Ne-Ti tendency.

Fe:

“You know, you could at least pretend to consider it.”

“Hey, if you ever get burned out on science, you’d be one hell of a lawyer, my friend. Serious. You rule at the smooth talking.”  – Daru to Okabe

Okabe, while somewhat insensitive, is very accepting of others. He welcomes several people into the lab without too much concern. He frequently tries to fix their problems when he hears about them, like Makise’s issues with her father. After hearing her emotional spiel, he deflects from the emotional aspect of it with jokes and his mad scientist act, but amidst the rant, he expresses a desire to take her to see her father in order to mend the relationship. In addition, his entire Hououin Kyouma persona was invented for the sake of Mayoria, to help her. Okabe also gets frustrated when Makise instantly dismisses some of his suggestions, wishing she would at least pretend to consider something. This is also indicative of low Fe, desiring validation even in disagreement.

Si:

“And what happens if going back only makes the situation worse? What if we’re able to change the world line, but all that awaits us is a future even more desolate and terrifying than the one you came from?”

In Zero, Okabe has fallen solidly into the grip of Si. He’s afraid to do anything to tamper with the past, and keeps fearing some of the events of the past would repeat themselves once again. He constantly looks for signs that they might,  and appears shaken whenever he notices a similarity.  In a healthy state, however, his inferior Si results in him getting caught on small details, like what to name something. He’ll try to name something way too early, and members of the team will rebuke him for it. He also outright dismisses any concern for changing the past, like the possibility of creating a time paradox, desiring to just explore and experiment without any restraint.
