Si:

“You take things at face value a little too much” his older brother to him.

Iida is very meticulous, straightforward, observant, and high strung. He is frequently shown asking very specific questions in an attempt to clarify whatever is being taught or explained. This aspect of his character introduced immediately in the show, when he is seen asking several questions about the rules of the entrance exam. When asked a question himself, he frequently launches off into very detailed explanations, sometimes to the point of frustrating the asker. Iida is also a very dedicated student, and always arrives ten minutes early to class. He is very respectful of authority and rarely seeks to question it. In general, Iida places a very high value on rules and following the established system; and freaks out when others do not. A couple of times, he mentions trusting the school’s judgement even though he morally disagrees with what they have done or are doing. (This demonstrates a preference for Si or Te/Fi.) He also makes a very blatant effort to correctly play his role of villain during one of their training scenarios by laughing maniacally and monologuing. Iida also highly values honor and living up to his family’s expectations. He takes on his brother’s hero name and works hard to live up to its reputation. He also mentions multiple times that he needs to do something in order to not bring shame to his family’s name.

Te:

“Wanting to do it and being suitable for it are different issues.”

Iida is very rigid and serious. This is emphasized pretty heavily at the beginning of the show since he still hasn’t had the chance to get to know anyone else in his class. He loosens up some after getting to know the others, but much of the rigidity remains. Iida is a very structured person and things being orderly is very important to him. This is demonstrated by the way he conducts his responsibilities as the class rep. He ensures everyone is seated by the time class is designated to start and ensures they line up to board the bus “as efficiently as possible.” As a matter of fact, it was Iida who first suggested that they elect a class rep through a democratic means (a desire for the decision to be made in a structured manner.) He is not afraid to take charge of a situation and giving out orders to the others come easily to him. He naturally falls into the role of the organizer even outside of his role as class rep. His Te can also be seen in his rigid nature and the absolute statements he makes. When his brother is seriously injured, he focuses in and makes it his one goal to relentlessly hunt down and kill his brother’s attacker.

Fi:

“I’m coming because I don’t condone your behavior.”
“I let everyone down didn’t I?”

Iida has relatively strong use of his Fi. He knows where he morally stands and isn’t afraid to state his opinion on those matters. He has a strong moral code, and doesn’t approve of “hazing” or the teachers lying and using unfair methods in their testing. At the same time, he struggles with this because he wants to trust the institution knows what they are doing in spite of it not aligning with his own moral compass. This is even to the extent that he did not like playing the role of a bad guy in one of their simulated test. He is very proud of his family and looks up to them, especially his older brother. He wants to become a noble hero just like him. He is very formal and polite. He tries to apologize any time he feels that he is in error. He is also hard on himself when he doesn’t live up to his own standards and ideals. Even when his team wins, he is hard on himself because he doesn’t feel as though he contributed. However, as stated in the Te section, he breaks his own moral code after his brother is seriously injured and he starts chasing a vendetta. This is part of him having lower Fi.

Ne:

Inferior Ne for Iida surfaces in his abundance of questions when it comes to more clearly outlining rules or understanding a piece of information. While he doesn’t come off as overly curious, he does desire enough information for him to know what is and isn’t allowed. He also second guesses himself a lot when it comes to taking leadership, or when things don’t come out the way that he had expected. At times, this keeps him from action since he ends up too distracted with all of the questions and doubts.
