Classroom of the Elite: Suzune Horikita (ESTJ)
Te:
โIt is clear to me that this is all a fruitless waste of my time.โ
โI may have been relegated to the lowest class in school but not for long. I will claw my way up to Class A.โ
Horikita is a clear Te dominant. Sheโs abrasive, forward, and unyielding. For instance, Horikita has no issues directly confronting Ayanokouji after the incident on the bus and asking why he had been staring at her. She also has no issues clearly stating why she hadnโt bothered to help the older lady, as Kushida had requested. Generally speaking, Horikita has no problems being forthright with what sheโs thinking, regardless of the emotional affect it might have on the other person. As a result, she tends to come off as extremely judgemental. This is the reason why the study group that she forms ends up failing after the first session. Her harsh mannerisms quickly discourage the participants and drive them to quit.
Horikita is goal-oriented. Sheโs determined to make it to Class A. Any and all actions she takes within the anime is usually, in some way, contributing to that goal. If an action isnโt going to help her progress toward that goal, she often outright refuses to do it. This is most clearly seen whenever sheโs invited to a social or recreational event. It usually takes a lot of convincing to get her to agree, if she does at all. As a whole, sheโs a very driven and determined individual, willing to do whatever is necessary to advance, even at the risk of her own health.
Si:
โIโm analyzing rationally, and precisely what factors account for the disparity.โ
โHow could one use 100,000 points? This school is too indulgent.โ
Horikita โs Si surfaces initially in her frugal nature. Right from the beginning, Horikita is shown to be both a conservative and careful person. Even though she is given a wealth of points to spend, Horikita continues to only buy what she specifically needs, not bothering to upgrade her products or indulge in anyway, much to the confusion of others, like Ayanokouji . As a result, she ends up financially secure in spite of the rest of the class. Of course, sheโs baffled by the wastefulness of the other students, confused as to how they could manage to spend so many points in merely a monthโs time.
Horikita also focuses on observation, precision and concrete metrics. When Horikita notices that Ayanokouji has recently been responding to Kushida differently then her, she asks him about it, specifically mentioning that sheโs trying to figure out all of the potential factors that might account for it. She also is the only one that notices that Sakura didnโt react to the plea for evidence to vindicate Sudo. Horikita tends to use specific numbers when giving information. We also see graphs and charts in her room, which schedule out her time and aid in formulating a plan to advance to Class A.
Ne:
Horikita appears to be a Ne tertiary rather than a Se tertiary. We considered Se, but she appears to have no concept of Se. When she sees all of the students enjoying themselves in the pool after learning that they werenโt going to be getting any more points, Horikita is baffled. Ayanokouji explains that they were just blowing off steam, but Horikita as a whole doesnโt seem to understand this concept. She doesnโt understand indulgence in the least. This tends to be indicative of not only a low extraverted perceiving function (Ne or Se), but also an overall lack of Se in any placement. In other words, when someone doesnโt understand โletting down their hairโ and enjoying the moment, theyโre usually a high Si user. This is partially due to the fact that high Si users can set the bar so high for physical experiences, that they lack any desire to try out new ones. In comparison, low Se users will often aspire to physically experience/explore, even if they donโt end up partaking. Therefore, they will generally understand the concept.
The anime only has a grand total of 12 episodes, so Horikita doesnโt get a huge amount of development. However, her Ne appears to surface in how sheโs able to come up with ideas and strategies for advancing forward in her goal. In addition, sheโs shown being able to produce a speech on the fly, when Ayanokouji asks her to distract everyone at the pool. She doesnโt appear to struggle with putting herself in the spotlight in front of everyone and coming up with something fairly substantial to say. Something similar can be seen during Sudoโs trial.
Fi:
โI donโt care what happens to anyone but meโฆโ
Horikitaโs inferior Fi surfaces most significantly in her misanthropic tendencies. She avoids forming connections of any kind with anyone. Sheโs rebuked for this many times throughout the show. She proclaims that she only cares about happens to herself and no one else which demonstrates bad Fi. Sheโs completely unconcerned with acting personable or amiable, and even intentionally says things to drive people way or create conflict.
Her inferior Fi also surfaces in her relentless need to prove her worth to her brother. Everything she does appears to be driven by a need to gain his respect or validation. This is in spite of the fact that he treats her poorly. She also becomes an entirely different person around him and her entire temperament and cold exterior changes. This all suggests an inferior identity function.
