Seven Deadly Sins: Diane (ESFJ)

Fe:

“I’m just happy to be able to eat with everybody for a change.”

“You should think about yourself once in a while.” – Howzer

On her initial debut into the series, Diane is presented as an erratic and emotional person. She has extreme outward reactions to situations as the result of her dominant Fe. She doesn’t keep her emotions inside, but rather projects them into the external world. For instance, she gets extremely upset when not given the response from Meliodas that she desires, and reacts accordingly. This also colors her initial viewpoint of Elizabeth, since Meliodas pays Elizabeth the attention that Diane desires.

Diane is sensitive to the needs and desires of others. She apologizes to Howzer after beating him in a tournament match, and buttons her shirt in the middle of the match at his request. At the time, Howzer was a complete stranger so his request should have been relatively meaningless. Howzer is later extremely impressed with her when she risks herself in the middle of a battle to save a random kid. There are other instances where she risks herself to save strangers. Howzer eventually tells her that she needs to think about herself once in a while.

Diane craves the company of others, and is prone to loneliness. When she falls sick, she insists that King stay with her rather than searching for medicine. Diane can also be somewhat controlling when it comes to other people. She forces the Hide-and-Seek to hide her in the Forest of White Dreams. She’s also at one point shown trying to force food on King.

Si:

“I’ll fight when the time comes, but that is when I have someone precious to protect. Fighting for the sake of fighting, that’s just so sad.”

Diane’s Si shows up a little differently than most fictional characters. There are a few external factors at play causing this. Due to that fact that she had memories erased multiple times, there is not a lot of evidence pointing to her having a detailed memory. However, we do see her get quite insistent about what she does not remember. This also can point to having a detailed Si memory as she is confident that she would remember the details had they happened.

She also has a desire toward wanting to preserve the past or protect the things that she has and keep them safe. This is shown in the quote above as she dislikes fighting and finds no thrill in it. She thinks it is pointless unless it is to protect someone precious to you. At the very least, this points away from her having Se in her stack as they tend to get some kind of thrill out of a fight. She also makes a remark about how the purpose of having a baby is to immortalize yourself which points to a preservation type outlook on children.

Furthermore, you can see another potential of Diane’s Si in the way that she is hesitant around humans. While she knows Meliodas and some of the other Seven Deadly Sins to be good, she overall has a negative outlook on humans due to her time in the giant race when a group of humans betrayed her and Matrona, and attempted to kill them.

Ne:

“Well, see, we’re not the real giant king and fairy king, okay? I mean, our bodies are the real thing, but our minds are in a totally different place. Does that make sense? It doesn’t, does it? I’ll shut up now.”

Diane tends to get flustered easily and when this happens she tends to ramble. She tends to fill in the blanks with different possibilities and sometimes this leads her to come to a conclusion and get upset before the other person can explain themselves. She also has a somewhat subdued sense of curiosity. She will frequently lead in with a “not that I care” type of statement, but will then proceed to inquire about it anyway.

Her Ne also leads her behavior to being somewhat erratic as she has a tendency to have a knee jerk reaction to her negative paranoid conclusions. Due to her erased memories, she places a lot of extra assumed feelings onto Meliodas and tries to impress that they are in love and a couple. In reality, while Meliodas was one of the few people who was nice to her, they never had that close of a relationship with each other.

Ti:

Diane’s failure to temper her emotional reactions can be tied back to her inferior Ti. She fails to see when a conclusion that she has jumped to is irrational, and simply allows herself to respond in an emotional way. Her emotional strength is very much dependent on the presence of others, which can also be tied back to weak Ti. She needs validation from people like Meliodas and King, and gains her strength from them. She struggles to look inward to draw on her own strength.

On the positive side, her deviation from the typical outlook of the giants is being rationalized by her Ti. She understands the Fe logic of fighting (protecting others), but she views fighting for the sake of it as irrational. She disagrees so strongly with them that it results in her overriding her dominant Fe and breaking away from the group. However, she never intends to break away alone, and is largely motivated by the struggles of her friend, Dolores, which once again speaks to the weak nature of her Ti. (Ti is the individualistic function in her stack.)
