Naruto Series: Might Guy (ENFJ)

Fe:

“Youth! Ah yes! This is what youth is all about. All your passionate devotion to a comrade who’s in need. That’s true friendship. I just couldn’t be more impressed with every one of you!”

“We believe in our students no matter what the cost.”

“It’s a heartwarming sight. The deep bond growing between men.”

“This isn’t good, especially not if it makes him remember what happened yesterday. If he remembers how pitiful the whole situation was, I’ll lose face as his master.”

Guy from the Naruto series has a larger than life personality, and is clearly very extraverted. He’s always extremely quick to both act and speak, which supports extraversion. Guy is highly passionate and very dramatic. He believes that with passion, anything is possible, and is constantly proclaiming this to others, especially his students. He is also a great teacher and highly encouraging to his students. He excels at believing in his students, seeing their potential, and fostering their individual capabilities. He generally looks for the passion in others. During Kakashi’s young and darker days, Guy was determined that Kakashi had a heart full of passion and tried to join the Anbu Black Ops in order to save him and bring that passion to the surface. Guy is frequently thinking of others. Upon learning that Kakashi was going to to be Hokage, Guy immediately took him out for one last challenge and presented him with a gift. Of course, Guy is quick to cry in the heat of the moment, and is unafraid to display any kind of emotion. He thrives off the respect and admiration of his students, and emphasizes values like comradery. He balks at the idea of losing face in front of anyone, especially his students, and will accept challenges or hide facts to protect his reputation. Many people argue that he’s an ESFP, but he is very emotionally intense and rarely seen relaxing, which is one of the reasons why I struggle to see it.

Ni:

“Mental visualization is a fundamental part of Tai Jutsu. Before I weave a sign, I’m already seeing a hundred moves ahead!”

“Ten Ten, stop your grumbling. I just have this feeling deep in my gut that some unknown horror is approaching.”

“It’s strange. I got the feeling I had fought him somewhere before, but…”

“You are not blind. You can still see with your heart’s eye! Find the enemy with the spirit sensor that you developed through ceaseless diligence and determination!”

Guy has a tendency to use metaphorical language, like the “springtime of youth.” He also doesn’t have a strong sensory memory like an Si user usually does. He frequently shown forgetting faces, names, and etcetera. In fact, during his second battle with Kisame, Guy spends the majority of the battle trying to remember who he is. Kisame mocks him for this. He eventually remembers him due to his incredible power, rather than any visual features or concrete details. Guy is also shown lecturing his students about visualization, thinking several steps ahead, and controlling the flow of the battle. See quotes above this section. In addition, once Guy has locked onto a particular decision or conclusion, he struggles to alter it, which can be seen as Ni tunnel vision. When visited by Kakashi during his travels with Naruto to the Land of Lightning, Guy becomes convinced that Kakashi is a fake, and for the longest time, is unable to recognize any obvious evidence to the contrary. He’s also seen using less-than-straightforward techniques like reverse psychology, and encourages Lee to accept the risk of the surgery, finding achieving one’s dreams to be more important than ensuring physical security.

Se:

“With the right amount of passion and some healthy competition to spur each other on, you’ll all be great ninja.”

“We fight with the power of youth!”

“Problems are just chances to succeed.”

Guy believes that sheer determination, guts, and audacity can overcome any problem or situation. He is definitely a doer, and action oriented. He constantly acts as if he has an abundance of energy, determined to remain vigorous and youthful. He struggles to calm down and act his age later on in life. Guy finds competition to be very important for bettering one’s abilities, picks Kakashi as his rival to serve this purpose. Of course, the combination of Fe-Se is what contributes to Guy’s tendency to act on impulse, without putting any obvious preparatory thought into what he’s about to do. In addition, Guy doesn’t typically seem concerned with what possibly might go wrong, and just views any challenges that come his way as opportunities.

Ti:

“But there’s a big difference between knowing and being absolutely certain.”

I wanted to include the above quote, because it seemed very anti-Te to me. Oftentimes, when a Te user decides that they “know” something, they feel certain about it, due to the more absolute nature of Te. Ti users tend to waver a bit more, constantly reanalyzing, which is more of the mentality that Guy would prone to, even as an inferior Ti user. Guy uses his Ti to view himself in a highly self-critical light, which urges him to improve. Any failure is met with an equal punishment. His Ti is actually somewhat healthy, not being used to drag him down into negativity, unlike some other low Ti users like Hinata and Sakura. However, he does at times, struggle to check in and recognize his own personal limitations. Guy also rarely reigns in his emotions, due to his low Ti. However, when he must, he can present himself with a very level head, being the mature adult that he is.
