The Myers-Briggs Types in Jujutsu Kaisen

MBTI and Myers-Briggs related content

Jujutsu Kaisen possesses a variety of characters, covering a wide range of Myers-Briggs personality types (colloquially known as MBTI). We wanted to find all sixteen, but unfortunately, certain personality types appear to be missing. So, weโ€™re going to discuss the more prominent, identifiable characters, albeit in brief. Bear in mind, that some of these characters were not explored in depth within the series, so weโ€™re essentially presenting our best guesses based on the information provided. Although, we have written individual analyses on some of the most prominent characters, if youโ€™re interested in exploring our theories on those characters further. Weโ€™ll provide links at the bottom of their sections. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!

The Myers-Briggs Types in Jujutsu Kaisen

Yuji Itadori โ€“ ESFJ

โ€œI may not know those two that well, but theyโ€™re friends. I have to help.โ€

Itadori is naturally empathetic, validating, and appreciative. Connecting with others is a strength of his, even when they are complete strangers. Itadori is quick to find common ground, and claim recently-met acquaintances as his friends. While many identify Itadori as an SFP, we noticed that Itadori is primarily focused on others, but not in the sense that heโ€™s selfless (although, he is). Rather, when explaining his reasoning or thought process, he typically references other people, drawing motivation from sources outside of himself. (For instance, his grandfatherโ€™s dying wish.) In fact, when compelled to produce a personal motivation, Itadori struggles to do so. The principal of Jujutsu High School calls this out as insufficient, demanding that Itadori make it more about himself so that he canโ€™t blame anyone in the end.

Megumi Fushiguro โ€“ ISFP

โ€œI hate bad people. They act so โ€ฆsuperior when their empathy and imagination are as empty as a vacant lot. I canโ€™t deal with good people either, because they forgive those bad people. And they view the act of forgiveness as a noble thing. It makes me want to vomit.โ€

Most people make Megumi an ISTJ or an INTJ, but heโ€™s far too focused on values, putting them above all else. Heโ€™s willing to devalue logic, in favor of his personal feelings, which he admits when explaining that his reasons for saving Itadori werenโ€™t based on logic, but were selfish and emotional. Megumi often disregards rules, regulations and the mission orders due to his value system. For instance, as a child, he plays a vigilante, of sorts, within his school, punishing bad students for their misdeeds. In addition, Megumi struggles to envision a stronger future version of himself. Gojo has to push him to focus on the future, rather than his immediately available, self-sacrifice technique.

Nobara Kugisaki โ€“ ESTJ

โ€œI donโ€™t want to hear it from someone who last week was a clueless normie. Now get moving.โ€

From the moment she appears on scene, Kugisaki demonstrates an assertive and pragmatic nature. She takes charge of those around her, and approaches every mission in an objective, systematic way. Although, she can be over-eager to bulldoze ahead, effectively sacrificing caution in order to move things along. Kugisaki is shown to be hyper-aggressive at times, and overeager to assert her identity or worth, which can be indicative of inferior Fi. Sheโ€™s good at sectioning off her emotions, and limiting who gets to sway her emotionally. However, she can be incredibly caring and loyal, willing to do whatever it takes to live up to her ideals and fulfill her duty.

Satoru Gojo โ€“ ENTP

โ€œOk, I got it! Yeah! Weโ€™ll record us playing catch with a stale rice ball while discussing economic policies. Then weโ€™ll post the video and go trolling!โ€

Satoru Gojo is incredibly powerful, with an unwavering self-confidence to match. He possesses a strong disdain for pointless traditions, being constantly at odds with his superiors. Gojo is openly defiant, making it clear that heโ€™s training strong students to overthrow them one day. In addition, he often argues against the rules and regulations in favor of what makes the most sense to him, and what opportunities hold the greatest potential. Similarily, Gojo approaches his role as a teacher in a eccentric way, using unique and sometimes risky methods to teach his students. However, he cares about his students, and ultimately desires to fix Jujutsu society as whole.

Aoi Todo โ€“ ENFP

โ€œThe bells of the Gion monastery in India echo with the warning that all things are impermanent. The blossoms of the sala trees teach us through their hues that what flourishes must fade. However! Sorcerers like us are the exception!โ€

Todo sees reality through the lens of his fantasies, which are extensive. Heโ€™s extremely prone to boredom, and excels at physical combat, provoking many to type him as an ESXP. However, Todoโ€™s boredom extends beyond a need for physical thrills or physical experiences. In addition, Todo is quite abstract, and strives to help Itadori see the big picture. As an FP, he focuses on his individual values and feelings, which often sets him apart from those around him. Todo refuses to allow others to control him, confronts people head on, and often provide critical feedback in a blunt, no-nonsense way.

Suguru Geto โ€“ INFJ

โ€œThe time is here, my beloved family. Letโ€™s lower the curtain on the age of monkeys, and build a paradise for Jujutsu sorcerers.โ€

Suguru Geto is driven by his vision for the future, and desire to further mankind. Before turning evil, heโ€™s shown to be naturally empathetic and sympathetic, in addition to constantly reminding Gojo of their responsibility to humanity as Jujutsu sorcerers. Geto often rebukes Gojo for being impolite and mean, advising him on ways to strengthen his interpersonal relationships. After turning evil, Geto maintains this polite persona, and forms a โ€œfamilyโ€ of others who share his vision. He fixates on the idea of creating a paradise on earth for all Jujutsu sorcerers, one that is free of the โ€œmonkeysโ€ who have held mankind back.

Kento Nanami โ€“ ISTJ

โ€œI simply made the safest choice.โ€

Nanami is a very cautious and moderate individual. He continously calculates risks, and tries to pass on his knowledge to Itadori. He wants Itadori to understand what he is getting into and tries to keep him out of fights that he deems too dangerous for him. Nanami is very matter of fact in his communications and does everything he can to separate his feelings from his judgements. While he doesnโ€™t agree with the decisions that the higher ups in Jujutsu society are making, Nanami still believes in following rules and regulations. In addition, he is also very principled which is why inspite of his faith and trust in Gojoโ€™s abilities, Nanami states quite flatly that he cannot respect the man.

Kokichi Muta [Mechamaru] โ€“ INTJ

Mechamaru comes off as arrogant and kind of touchy when first introduced. However, as more is revealed about him, it becomes evident that he does everything for a reason. He has carefully-laid, longterm plans that extend out past his own death. While intially turning traitor to restore his body, Mechamaru never truly wanted to harm his comrades, and turns on the villains the moment he gets what he wants. In addition, he had planned out several contingencies all for the express purpose of taking on and defeating Mahito on his own. Mechamaru puts up an impressive fight. Furthermore, he still manages to aide the others by placing remnants of his cursed energy inside his dolls to relay information and help guide them from beyond the grave.

Ryomen Sukuna โ€“ ENTJ

โ€œYou should have burnt everything you desired to a cinder, to reach the height of Satoru Gojo and not worry about your future or identity, but you lacked the hunger to take hold of your desires.โ€

Sukuna is the very embodiment of power above all else. He views himself as the top of the food chain and acts accordingly, looking down on every one else as a result. Sukuna does like to wield his power in a chaotic way, insisting others try to challenge him even if they are also cursed spirits. He seems to do so simply because he wishes to be entertained. Sukuna hates pity and is extremely offended if anyone shows him any. His entire identity is based around strength, and anyone showing him any kind of pity or mercy would imply that he is weak.

Junpei Yoshino โ€“ INFP

โ€œThe emotional impact of seeing a good movie at the theater is huge. Even if on demand ones are convenient.โ€

Junpei is an outsider that has a hard time connecting with others. He has a passion for horror movies and is very interested in dissecting everything about his chosen media. After finding out they like the same series, he finds it easy to strike up conversation with Yuji. He starts spouting a bunch of information about the series and sharing his personal takeaways and ideas of what different things could mean. Because of being bullied, Junpei strives for apathy, wanting to be rid of his strong feelings, but heโ€™s ultimately unable to suppress them. Mahito takes advantage of his bitterness, convincing him to commit worse and worse immoral acts. Eventually, Mahito pushes him too far, and Junpei realizes that he canโ€™t cast away his principles.

Mahito โ€“ ENTP

โ€œWhich do you think came first, the soul or the body? You know, like the chicken or the egg. Does the soul reside within the body, or is the body built around the soul?โ€

Mahito, while deranged, has a childlike curiousity about him. He constantly questions everything, and enjoys experimentation, specifically on the human soul. Heโ€™s impulsive, and enjoys battle. During his fights, Mahito constantly attempts to hold conversations with his opponents, to the point of asking philosophical questions or inquiring about their abilities. In addition, he likes to rationalize everything and uses it to justify his own immoral point of view. Mahito postures that life and everything else is meaningless, so there is no point in not doing whatever he desires. Mahito treats near death experiences as thrilling, because he walks away from them learning something new about himself or having some kind of breakthrough with his abilities.

Toji Fushiguro โ€“ ISTP

โ€œSomethingโ€™s off. โ€˜I refuse to do any work for free.โ€™ Normally, I would have said that and hightailed it out of there. Yet, the freshly awakened wielder of the Limitless technique was right before my eyesโ€ฆ I wanted to take down the pinnacle of the jujutsu world, and the Zenin clan that rejected me. Iโ€™ve twisted myself into knots for so long, all to try justifying my life. But that was the moment I truly lost.โ€

Toji started life as a part of the Zenin clan, but his weak cursed energy puts him in an unfavorable position. Eventually, he forsakes his clan and abandons the Zenin name. Toji has a cool head, strategic mind, and is not one to pay attention to small details. He knows how to create openings and manipulate peopleโ€™s reasoning to his advantage. This is part of how he manages to take on top Jujutsu sorcerers in spite of having no cursed energy himself. He is reliant purely on his own physical skills and wits in battle. Although he lives a life devoid of respect and entrenched in apathy, in the end, Toji makes the mistake of getting caught up in pride, resulting in his death at the hands of Gojo.

Yuta Okkotsu โ€“ ISFJ

โ€œWhat are you talking about? I donโ€™t know about any sorcerers outside of this school, so I donโ€™t know if youโ€™re right or wrong, but I do know one thing. I know that in order to remain here with my friends, and in order to believe itโ€™s okay that Iโ€™m still alive, I know what I have to do. I have to do it. I have no choice but to kill you.โ€

Yuta is a very introverted young man, scarred by the loss of his childhood best friend. Unbeknownst to him, however, his latent cursed energy binds her soul to him and turns her into a powerful cursed spirit that haunts him. Yuta yearns for connection and the acceptance of others. He has an amenable personality and does his best to get along with people. Once he creates a bond with another person, Yuta will do just about anything in order to preserve that relationship. This is how he rationalizes his need to kill Geto when he wonโ€™t stop hunting him. While he would rather live in peace, Yuta wonโ€™t ignore threats to the small bit of security and friendship he gained at Jujutsu high.

Other Characters:

Of course, there are many other characters in this show, but we couldnโ€™t solidly land on types for every one. There are few that Iโ€™ll mention briefly though, in case youโ€™re wondering.

  • Panda is usually typed as an ENTP, but weโ€™re personally leaning ENFP, although we donโ€™t have enough data to confidently prove that theory.
  • Maki is typically typed an ESTJ. However, we were leaning ENTJ, due her tendency to read a lot into Yuta and act like sheโ€™s โ€œan authority on mind reading.โ€
  • Yuki Tsukumo is probably an ESTP, but thereโ€™s very little information on her.
  • Kasumi Miwa is often typed as an ISFJ, but thereโ€™s very little on her as well. We thought she had INFP energy (such as that playful mocking of herself and her failures).
