Seven Deadly Sins: Hendrickson (INTJ)
Weโre a little uncertain as to how the demon was influencing Hendrickson during the first season of the showโฆ It looks as if Hendrickson is just evil of his own accord, but then later after he turns good, Meliodas makes a comment about him having been under Fraudrinโs control the whole timeโฆ even though Fraudrin was supposed to be possessing Dreyfus for the past decade or so?!?! So, was evil Hendrickson actually Fraudrin, or was evil Hendrickson actually Hendrickson? A google search was not helpful. Regardless, Hendricksonโs โpersonalityโ when evil seems consistent with his personality afterwards, so weโre going to use all of the available evidence indiscriminately.
Ni:
โThatโs quite a stretch. I mean, we donโt have enough information to support anything.โ
โBut if the holy war really is something thatโs inescapable, then is there any point in we holy knights even existing in the first place? I wonder.โ
โI donโt like this. Iโm really starting to get worried.โ
When the show first begins, Hendrickson plays the role of the villain, scheming in the background. He predicts the actions of others and orchestrates things such that a holy war will eventually be started. When they discover the corpse of a demon, he sees a potential use for it and begins experimenting on soldiers in order to unlock greater physical power. He works steadily on this goal for many years. No one fully knows what heโs up to until it all comes out in the end.
In a flashback, Hendrickson is shown questioning the existence of the holy knights, because the prophecy made a holy war out to be unavoidable. As an Ni dominant, he didnโt see a purpose in their existence if their purpose was to prevent the war. This supports him having a more narrow-minded perspective, only seeing one path or one conclusion, rather than several possibilities. As a result, he eventually locks onto the holy war as his long term goal.
Younger Hendrickson and Hendrickson after the demon possession displays the typical caution that would be expected from an introverted perceiving dominant. He desires information prior to acting. Additionally, in a separate situation, Hendrickson is shown getting a bad feeling when walking into a situation, which prompts him to feel concerned. This would be a manifestation of his intuition.
Te:
Hendrickson has the serious, commanding and controlled temperament that most Te users are known for. He is comfortable in leadership positions, which is demonstrated by his role throughout the series. He also seeks physical power, which Te users tend to desire so they can control the external world exactly the way they want to. This is shown in his experiments with the demon blood, especially when he injects himself with it to gain more power.
Hendrickson is also goal oriented, and great at achieving what he wants. He uses his Ni perception to form a goal, and enacts all the steps necessary to achieve it. Heโs generally a long term thinker and planner. If not for Meliodas and the others physically overpowering him at the end of season one, he would have easily accomplished everything that he set out to do. Hendrickson tends to see things in terms of a means to an end, as a result of his Te nature. This is demonstrated by how he views the possession of Margaret by the goddess race. He only sees it for its strategic value, and overall is excited by the prospect in spite of warnings from others.
Fi:
Hendrickson is highly confident in his abilities, and prone to over-confidence, which is common for tertiary Fi users, since they tend to not overthink their value. In addition, Hendricksonโs reason for trying to start a Holy War could be seen as Fi. He believes that without the war, the Holy Knightโs serve no purpose. Ergo, in an effort to seek meaning and purpose, he launches his plan to enact a Holy War. This seems Fi nature because Fi users tend to struggle when they canโt find meaning or purpose within their chosen career.
Prior to being evil, Hendrickson is said to be well-liked within the kingdom, and trusted by all. Elizabeth explains this when rebuking him for his evil actions during the battle at the end of season 1. She claims that he was kind and gentle. This would all tie back to his Fi use, since itโs ultimately the feeling functions that help people relate to others. Hendrickson also is shown being empathetic. At one point, he sees a young couple and immediately thinks of Princess Margaret and how heโd deprived her and Gilthunder of so much time. From this springs guilt over his past actions, and Hendrickson declares that he must make it right. Generally speaking, Hendrickson expresses a lot of guilt over his past actions, and seeks to atone for them.
Se:
โI had hoped to experiment further before proceeding, but if my hypothesis is correctโฆ If I can take the red demonโs blood then I can take this as well!โ
Hendricksonโs inferior Se manifests in a devaluing of the sensory. Heโs willing to risk his own physical person for the sake of power and experimentation. Although, he spends most of his time afflicting others to his experiments, which would support being both an Ni dominant and inferior Se user. However, when backed into a corner in the middle of battle, Hendrickson takes an extreme risk since it looks like Meliodas, Ban, and King are going to defeat him. On impulse, he injects himself with the blood of a gray demon, which is something heโs never tested before. The level of impulse and risk tied to this decision is a clear demonstration of Se use mid-battle.
