Bleach: Yoruichi Shihoin (ESTP)
Bleach seems to have an issue with retconning, which Iโm saying because Yoruichi as a cat appears to have a completely different personality then Yoruichi in human form. We were unsuccessful at reconciling the two, and deemed it an inconsistency. Thus, this typing will be limited to Yoruichiโs actions in her human form. Her cat form appears to be something of an INTJ. Anyways, Iโll begin with a quoteโฆ
โDo you remember the first time when you were a child that you stood up and walked on your own? If you donโt remember doing it, and yet you did it, it means that you werenโt conscious of it at the time. So how did you know how to do it? The answer is all humans are born already knowing how to stand up. Just as birds are born knowing how to fly, and fish are born already knowing how to swim. Itโs because of what we call instinct. All living creatures use instinct to obtain their natural powers when the time comes that they need them.โ
Se:
Yoruichi is incredibly bold and forward, a prime example being the very first time she transforms into her human form in front of Ichigo. While age has taught her to temper her actions, she is still quick to launch into action. When Ichigo confronts Byakuya prematurely, she immediately attacks him physically to incapacitate him and then transports him back to their hideout. (But not before openly stating her intentions to Byakuya โ that sheโd train Ichigo to beat him in three days time.) Sheโs quick to physically attack people when angry, like throwing a strike at Urahara after an undesirable reaction on his part.
Yoruichi is shown to be laidback. She doesnโt tend to stand on ceremony, and just rolls with things as they come. She is unbothered by Uraharaโs apparent lack of ambition. She is not detail oriented, and gains great amusement from her subordinateโs detailed report on Uraharaโs action. She is shown rebuking said subordinate for thinking too much, which would be Yoruichiโs mentality as an Se dominant.
Ti:
Beyond her flirtatious nature, Yoruichi doesnโt demonstrate much emotion. Sheโs usually calm and collected, unless angered. When Ichigo pins her to the wall and accuses her, she has no visible emotional reaction and remains perfectly calm. She simply flips him onto the ground and begins to explain. She doesnโt display any obvious desire to exert physical control over her environment (anti-Te), and simply reacts to it (Se).
Yoruichi places little value in manners and formalities. She gets frustrated with a subordinate over the use of titles, since Yoruichi had little interest in being referred to by a formal title. She emphasizes that she values skill, not manners, which is a common Ti mentality. (Ti doesnโt tend to naturally respect titles or positions of power, and must see proof of skill to respect a person holding a title.)
Fe:
Yoruichi teases and flirts, and enjoys getting a rise out of others. She is very team-oriented, and can be very encouraging when she wants to be. Yoruichi is shown telling her subordinate โWe work together. Itโs not about who did what.โ This demonstrates an Fe mentality very plainly, as it emphasizes a collective effort versus individual accomplishments. Yoruichi is also shown stepping in to yell at Urahara for wanting to go save his Lieutenant, claiming that he is insulting her capability by doing so. In the final battle with Aizen, she also assumes that Urahara is blaming her for the armor being destroyed and instantly yells at him, suggesting an Fe sensitivity to his judgement.
Ni:
Yoruichi speaks of instincts as inherent to human nature. (See quote at the top of the article.) Focusing on instincts tends to be the product of low Ni, because it means trusting that you will know what to do when the moment arrives versus planning it out in advance. Yoruichiโs Ni is not underdeveloped, due to her age and maturity. However, it does come out in the way she defaults to simply reacting in the moment.
