Sonic X Characters Part 1

We started with checking over cut scenes from some of the older games like Sonic Adventures and Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, but then ended up over in the old Sonic X TV series which seemed to line up significantly with those games. The newer Sonic the Hedgehog material appears to change a few of their personalities somewhat, so we stuck with the older stuff, and then ultimately decided to only claim Sonic X for these character typings. Weโ€™ve posted the major Sonic characters in two parts. Hereโ€™s a link to part 2: Sonic X Characters Part 2

Sonic (ESTP)

Sonic has a need for speed. Heโ€™s clearly impulsive, action-oriented, and thrill seeking, making him an obvious Se dominant. Heโ€™s always calm, collected, and unworried. Heโ€™s shown chilling even if the moment should be demanding some level of concern from him like when he was captured on prison island. He gets bored easily, which sometimes gets him in trouble. In addition, heโ€™s highly competitive. Sonic also appears to have Ti, rather than Fi. He never attacks Eggman or anyone from a moral standpoint, and instead just sticks with general statements regarding his need to stop Eggman. He rarely shares his values, and when he does, they appear more Fe driven. For instance, he is shown getting angry for the sake of his friends on occasion, becoming enraged when they have been harmed. He also tends to poke fun at his friends, even in the middle of battle. For instance, when confronting Eggman at one point, he chooses to make an underhanded Fe jab, claiming that the drive over with Knuckles was more dangerous than Eggman himself. Although he isnโ€™t mean, heโ€™s also not emotionally sensitive or empathetic. A scene in Sonic X shows where Eggman takes in a passed out Sonic, but once Sonic wakes up he doesnโ€™t feel at all compelled to thank Eggman even though he had potentially saved his life.

Shadow (INTJ)

Shadow is clearly harsh, abrasive and blunt (Te). Yet, he appears to be an introvert due to his aloof, silent, and cautious nature. Heโ€™s not impulsive and usually appears calculated. He prefers to work alone, and usually takes a relatively direct approach in dealing with things. He doesnโ€™t hold strong values, yet has a solid sense of identity and self-worth, which suggests tertiary Fi. While Shadow is oftentimes being driven by his tragic past or lack of past memories, he doesnโ€™t appear to lead with Si. Heโ€™s relatively comfortable acting without much information. Heโ€™s shown going to Eggman for answers, yet always walking away with only half an answer, and he is seemingly unbothered by that fact. He doesnโ€™t poke and prod for a lot of information, and is uninterested in learning anything that he hasnโ€™t deemed directly useful for his current mission. He gives vague answers to questions, and prefers to share as little information as possible, even when explaining himself could have avoided unnecessary struggles. Shadow is also at one point shown voicing a thought in the form of a โ€œfeelingโ€, informing Maria that he feels like his purpose is connected somehow with the planet Earth.

Doctor Eggman (ENTP)

Doctor Eggman is your stereotypical evil genius, who comes up with countless plans and technological innovations to take over the world, which is common for Ne-Ti villains in fiction. Heโ€™s always coming up with these grandiose plans, seemingly never running out of ideas. He tends to be extravagant and flashy. However, he readily switches sides and works with the good guys depending on the situation (Ti), rather than sticking to any kind of solid values. Doctor Eggman also doesnโ€™t appear to have any clear value-driven reason for taking over the world, and seems to enjoy playing mind games with Shadow purely for the enjoyment of it, which implies Ti-Fe. Heโ€™s eccentric, short-tempered, bold, and likes to yell, laugh maniacally, and rant, suggesting an extravert. He also has a problem with overlooking details which causes his plans to fail, making his Si inferior at best.
