Si:

“I’m not in the mood for some ridiculous toast, nor am I interested in our status or political influence. Our brand of justice is to assassinate in the name of the World Government. As long as they continue to recognize you as the commander of CP9, we will fulfill our duty to the letter.”

“Now that we’re all comfortable, let me explain the thought process leading to our hypothesis.”

Rob Lucci from One Piece is cautious, highly observant, and duty-oriented. For starters, he is shown constantly explaining his thought process to his enemies, and it’s usually detailed and straightforward. He’s not shown jumping to conclusions. Instead, he steps through everything and ultimately brings the listeners to his final conclusion. This is very clearly demonstrated when he “interrogates” Iceberg on Water 7. It would have been just as effective to share his conclusion while monitoring Iceberg’s heart. Sharing everything he knew was technically unnecessary, however he proceeds from start to finish and even launches off in list format, like a stereotypical Si dom would.

Lucci is also highly observant. He easily picks up on the little girl and her pet following them, and he’s quick to hear Luffy approaching from far away, before Luffy starts yelling. He also compares Luffy’s physical state in their final battle to the way he was previously, and lists off all the physical differences (steam coming off his skin, redness, strength increase, etc.) He uses his observations and general knowledge to recognize what Luffy is doing to increase his fighting strength, and explains it all to Luffy, along with the longterm health implications.

Lucci is duty oriented, an ISTJ tendency that results in a combination of Si and Fi. He’s determined to fulfill his duty by any means necessary. However, sometimes, he chooses to focus on his exact orders rather than reading between the lines. He chooses to ignore the fact that a child is following them. Spandam gets incredibly frustrated by this oversight later, and Lucci simply rebuts by saying that he wasn’t ordered to stop them. A semantics based argument such as that would be more typical for someone on the Si/Ne axis.

Lucci’s fighting style is also relatively straight forward and repetitive. He chooses to fall back on the same techniques over and over again, oftentimes catching Luffy’s fists and countering with a strike of his own. He never appears reckless or over impulsive.

Te:

“We will achieve our goal by any means necessary.”

“Our orders were to bring him in alive. You’ve let your emotions get the better of you it seems.”

Lucci has the typical cold and harsh temperament of a high Te user. He doesn’t hesitate to dish out judgement, and pays no attention to emotion. While he submits to Spandam, he doesn’t appear to bridle his tongue in Spandam’s presence. Lucci lacks empathy of any kind, and even kills a new recruit simply because the recruit has allowed his emotions to get the better of him. Lucci is willing to kill anyone for the sake of the mission, and doesn’t care how many lives are lost. He is also shown expressing disdain for any kind of weakness. He is stiff and rigid, which is also characteristic of Te users, since they usually prefer to maintain control of their physical bodies. Lucci speaks in terms of what is efficient. He hates wasting time, and complains on multiple occasions about that.

Lucci is the leader among the other CP9 team members, and does not struggle to take the lead. He barks orders whenever he wishes, and doesn’t hesitate to exert his own will. He uses his Te to enforce his Fi values in the most efficient way possible.

Fi:

“Don’t blame yourself. You’re only human, and under these circumstances no one would be able to hide the truth from us for very long. So just be grateful that justice will prevail in the end.”

“A cowardly soldier doesn’t deserve to live, so I killed them.”

“I will not allow any evil to prosper in this world.”

Lucci believes in justice, and desires to fight evil. He fights for the World Government so that justice can prevail. He spouts these type of values frequently during his relatively short appearance in the series. When Lucci’s backstory is revealed, he’s shown coming to the aid of a kingdom at the behest of the World Government, yet instead he kills 500 of their own soldiers who are being held captive in addition to their captors. He does so declaring that cowardly soldiers do not deserve to live. From an efficiency standpoint, their deaths would have been inefficient, unnecessary for the completion of the mission, which means the deaths were purely Fi driven. This suggests Lucci’s Fi is not inferior but tertiary, since a Te dom would have been more concerned with efficiency. This information along with his frequency to spout justice related ideology lead me to choosing ISTJ over ESTJ for Rob Lucci.

Ne:

“We’re not there yet. Stop spouting nonsense and take your mission seriously, you fool.”

“The price for greed. What fools. If you think about the risk that comes with eating one fruit, you can only imagine what kind of disaster you might bring upon yourself by eating two of them.”

Low Ne can surface as paranoia, what-if speculation, or a general frustration with those who are unable to focus. While Lucci hasn’t been given a prominent enough role to bring out of some of this, he is most certainly shown getting frustrated with those who are not cautious enough. He is shown rebuking his team members for believing prematurely that the mission has been complete. Low Ne paranoia is partially what drive an Si dom’s overly cautious, risk-averse nature. Lucci is also shown playing the speculation game with Luffy. He says,”I wonder how your pirate crew is fairing up there? And Nico Robin, I wonder what happened to her? I’d be pretty concerned if I were you.” This could easily be a clue to the way he might be prone to thinking if he were in Luffy’s position.
