Ti:

โ€œItโ€™s hacker. The way you say it makes no sense.โ€

โ€œJust calling it like I see it, man.โ€

โ€œThis doesnโ€™t make any sense!โ€ฆDie! Darn it!โ€

Itaru Hashida, or Daru, from Steins Gate, leads with introverted thinking. Daruโ€™s Ti surfaces very specifically in his naming system, which to all others makes no sense. However, Daruโ€™s naming system makes sense to himself, and he seems unconcerned with how illogical it appears to others. Daru rarely feels the need to exert control over his environment. For the most part, he just goes along with Okabeโ€™s different ideas and follows his orders. On occasion, Daru will make a few snide comments or completely ignore him, but Daru usually doesnโ€™t feel the need to argue back unless something doesnโ€™t make sense, or his Fe kicks in. For instance, he doesnโ€™t mind being called a hacker, but he hates when Okabe alters the title to something that doesnโ€™t make sense. Amongst the group, heโ€™s one of the calm and rational ones. Conflict doesnโ€™t usually appear to bother him, yet he tends to remain detached from any drama. However, due to Okabeโ€™s abrasive personality, Daru tends to be forced into a diplomatic role, having to smooth things out between Okabe and whoever Okabe has happened to offend at the time. (For instance, when Okabe didnโ€™t understand what he had done to make Kurisu cry.)

Se:

โ€œFeel free to slap him if he gets too grabby.โ€

Daru is laid back easy going, and usually grounded in reality. He is not at all paranoid, and tends to call a lot of what Okabe says โ€œcrazy talk.โ€ In that way, Daru tends to dismiss a lot of Okabeโ€™s paranoia, like Okabeโ€™s fear of Sern. He even makes a joke about how the idea of his thoughts and Okabeโ€™s thoughts being โ€œsimpaticoโ€ is a scary thing. In addition, Daru is not a fountain of ideas and doesnโ€™t do a lot of pointless speculation, which pointed me away from aux Ne. He chooses the name โ€œBarrel Titorโ€ as his alias, because itโ€™s just an alteration of his name. (Taru meaning barrel, and saying his name fast several times sounds similar to Titor.) Daruโ€™s Se also manifests physically. The few times he gets angry or frustrated, he usually lashes out physically. He pounds his desk when struggling with a problem, punches Okabe in an extreme demonstration of anger, throws a bottle at Okabeโ€™s face when Mayori starts mimicking Okabeโ€™s perversion of the word โ€œhackerโ€, and etc. He also encourages Kurisu, who was a stranger at the time, to slap Okabe when he starts touching her to prove that she is real. Of course, his frequent perverted comments and innuendos can be tied to an Se drive or focus.

Ni:

Daruโ€™s Ni isnโ€™t very pronounced, but there are a few nods toward it. When Kurisu asks them for all the relevant data they had concerning the potential time machine, Daru is only able to come up โ€œlightning came out of the microwave yesterday around noon.โ€ He doesnโ€™t have a bunch of detailed information or a more specific time, which could have indicated Si use. He, on occasion, uses his Ni to speculate big picture concepts like the idea of the world being a program, however he doesnโ€™t appear to spend a lot of time on this type of pointless speculation. In addition, he does use his Ni to gain insight and read between the lines. When Suzuha attempts to trick him into getting serious about dating her mother, Daru is fully aware of the ploy and the picture being fake, although he decides to go along with it as if he isnโ€™t. His strange naming system which makes no apparent sense to others could also be a nod toward a Ti-Ni combo, since the Si styles of internalizing information usually results in an ability to manifest thoughts and ideas in a more concrete and understandable way.

Fe:

Daru is very insecure about himself, and easily embarrassed, which are all very clear signs of inferior Fe. For instance, he ducks down and hides his face under his hat when embarrassed by Okabeโ€™s outburst in the conference. In addition, when finally provoked to anger, Daru usually snaps suddenly and unexpectedly, which is classic ISTP behavior (caused by the combination of Se and bad Fe.) Sometimes heโ€™ll lash out physically, while other times he just yells. He has demonstrated healthy use of Fe, however. His tendency to be diplomatic, recognize the emotions of others, and diffuse situations are all positive ways in which his Fe manifests.
