Ni:

“Even when it rains, it isn’t as if the stars stop existing, you know. Above the dark clouds, they’re still up there, shining. That’s why I’m doing this. I have to push away the bad weather that’s been covering up your brightness.”

“Wow, Suzuha and Daru make a pretty good match, huh? … I don’t know how I mean it, but they just do.”

“I don’t understand all the science stuff that you do, but I can usually tell what’s going on in your head anyway. And right now, I feel like I don’t understand anything at all. I guess you kinda time leapt after all, huh?”

Mayuri from Steins Gate hones in on people with her introverted intuition. She makes it very clear throughout the show that she can’t understand most of the technical stuff being talked about, yet she states that she can always tell what Okabe is thinking and feeling. This only begins to change once Okabe gets stuck leaping over and over again through time in an attempt to save her, because she can no longer understand his motivations and why he’s in such turmoil.  Similarly, in Zero, Mayuri is able to perceive why Faris asked for her to go with Okabe when visiting Maho at Faris’ place. Her only real clue was walking into a messy room, but Mayuri understands almost immediately that Faris wanted her there because Mayuri would bring Sgt. Clean and fix the disaster. Mayuri also hones in on the relationship between Suzuha and Daru rather quickly, which eventually helps her realize that they are family.  (Okabe writes off her initial observation with “Mayuri’s just being inscrutable again.”) The girl is also somewhat spiritual in nature, and is often seen reaching out to the stars. She uses these as the basis for any analogies. In addition, her memory doesn’t appear to be very detail oriented or specific. For instance, when it comes to terms and names from Okabe’s fantasy world,  Mayuri is shown multiple times producing something close, but not quite right.

Fe:

“Sorry. That has to be really painful for you, because it means you can’t remember all the people you love the most in the world. Seriously, amnesia must be the saddest thing that could ever happen to anyone. It’s heartbreaking! So, um, if you ever need help with something, just tell me. I’d be happy to do whatever I can. I’m here, okay?”

“Um. Please stop fighting. I really hate it when people fight.”

“Listen, there’s a bunch of stuff I wanna ask you about, but I know you already have so much on your mind. So pretty please, just promise me you’ll explain all this when it’s over, okay?”

Mayuri focuses mostly on others, rather than herself.  She isn’t often shown making value statements or absolute statements, like an Fi dominant does. When she does, they’re usually related to maintaining harmony, like trying to stop fights, prevent conflict, getting on Okabe about being rude, and etc. Her identity seems to wrapped up in the people around her.  She frequently makes self-deprecating statements about not being smart enough or useful enough. During one of her many death scenes, her final words express how glad she is that she was finally helpful for once. Mayuri’s cosplay hobby is always servicing others, and she doesn’t typically make any outfits for herself.  She’s very warm and accepting, and notices the emotional state or needs of others. She’s quick to welcome people into the lab, and show them around so that they feel like they belong.  She’s constantly worrying about what Okabe is feeling, and divvying out affirmation, even before she knows what she’s affirming. For instance, when Daru first hacks Sern’s network, she congratulates him almost immediately after he issues his victory cry, yet has no clue about what he’s actually done. When feeling abandoned or ignored, Mayuri mostly just shrinks away, rather than making a big deal out of it or even calling much attention to it. Amidst the time leaping ordeal, Mayuri approaches Okabe for answers, but rather than trying to force an explanation out of him, she simply states that she knows he has a lot on his mind and makes him promise that he’ll explain once it is all over.

Ti:

Mayuri’s Ti shines the brightest when she’s shown piecing together the connections between Daru and Suzuha. In a very Ni/Ti-esque way,  she connects the time machine’s FG204 designation with the wacky version number to Daru, in addition to his name being connected to a word that means Barrel, which is the alias of Suzuha’s father. In addition, she recognizes that Daru would have all the right connections to know and be involved in what Suzuha’s father is involved in. It’s also a possibility that Mayuri’s insecurities about not being smart enough are tied to low Ti,  basically not feeling very much confidence in the use of her logic function, especially since she’s surrounded by a bunch of high Ti users like Okabe and Daru.

Se:

Mayuri’s inferior Se comes out in a couple of different ways. She enjoys splurging on people, and is multiple times shown bringing in food, giving away candy, or making cosplay outfits for her friends. Her cosplay hobby is also a physical craft, which can easily be an Se outlet. In addition, when realizing that she needs to convince Okabe to try and save Makise once again, she decides to start off by slapping him, rather than simply yelling. Her physical approach to that stressful situation indicates inferior Se.
