Fi:

โ€œThere comes a time when a man has to stand and fight. That time is when his friends or dreams are laughed at.โ€

Usopp has a very idealized image of himself. He wants to view himself as a brave adventurer and comes up with wildly outlandish stories to support that claim. While over the course of the series, he does start to become what he claims himself to be, in the beginning he most certainly is not. Plus, even though he constantly makes outlandish claims, Usopp never appears to be embarrassed or self-conscious in spite of the crew ridiculing him or calling him out on his lies. He also never attempts to change any of his ridiculous behavior so that he can be viewed more favorably. Usopp is also very idealistic and gullible. He canโ€™t believe that the pirate trying to kill Kaya could be so evil, and keeps trying to appeal to his humanity. Usopp is usually quick to cry or lose his temper when a situation prompts it. Luffy has even chided him for taking things too personally. (His inability to set aside his own emotions is what ultimately leads him to leaving the Straw Hat crew.) However, while highly emotional, Usopp mostly focuses on his own feelings as opposed to the feelings of others. When learning that they have to give up the Going Merry, Usopp is unable to see past his own pain to notice the struggle that the other crew members are going through. In addition, when finding the hostage children on Punk Hazard, while Nami is focused solely on saving the children, Usopp is primarily worried about how they are going to save themselves from the children, rather than seeing them for the victims that they are.

Ne:

โ€œI am a dreamer and Iโ€™m silly. Itโ€™s true. Iโ€™m proud of it.โ€

Usopp is highly imaginative, and uses his Ne practically nonstop. Heโ€™s a great story teller, exaggerator, and effortless liar. He prefers to live in the world of his own imagination, even to the point of acting it out in real life and playing make believe. In a flash back, his mother is shown telling him that he dreams too much. On his home island, he even pulls children into his pirate crew fantasies. All of his stories are very elaborate and detailed, and he usually comes up with them on the spot. Many are fantastical, like a giant goldfish pooping out island-size feces. When attempting to rejoin the crew, Usopp runs through more than 50 possible scenarios in which he would be allowed to rejoin. Usopp is not very observant, and misses obvious things similarly to Luffy and Chopper. Usopp is also quick to believe things that others might not, like believing that the Going Merry had repaired herself. Usopp is also very inventive, whether it be creating new weapons or finding ways to repair the ship.

Si:

Usopp is incredibly sentimental. The Going Merry holds a place in his heart, and he frequently references it as the ship that Kaya gave to them. When the ship is damaged beyond repair, Usopp refuses to accept reality, to the point that he leaves the pirate crew in anger and challenges Luffy to a duel. Heโ€™s also shown to be very detail oriented in his speech, whether it be the wildly unrealistic stories or the many lies. Theyโ€™re never general. Usopp is also very anxious and fears uncertainty. He avoids repeating things associated with a negative experience, like declaring a dislike for mushrooms since he ate a poisonous one once as a child.

Te:

โ€œListen Luffy, you can pity me if you want, but Iโ€™m going to beat you and take the Merry with me, and I donโ€™t care what it takes!โ€

Usopp gets very rigid and stubborn in certain scenarios, mostly under stress. He declares his opinions and then tries to enforce it to those around him. When Luffy decides to replace the Going Merry, Usopp first attempts to take command and fix the ship, refusing to take them seriously. When that doesnโ€™t work, Usopp lashes out, starts a fight, and then leaves the crew. Later, he challenges Luffy to a duel for the Going Merry, even though itโ€™s obvious that he canโ€™t win. However, on principle, he feels he must fight to save the Going Merry.

However, a much deeper argument for Usoppโ€™s inferior Te is his greatest insecurity: he fears that he is weak. Usopp on multiple occasions expresses concerns that he is the weakest crew member. Similarly to how dominant Te users hate being seen as weak, inferior Te users fear that they ARE weak. This is why Usopp has a tendency to puff himself up around people, in an attempt to make himself look stronger than he actually is. Note that this is more for his own sake rather than to garner acceptance from the people around him.
