Ni:

“The future I await became my gospel and I lost glimpse of all hope. The future I envisioned can never be overturned. Though I am constructing the future in reality I am only a defective god that yields to the future.”

Typing Mitsuru presented a challenge, partially due to his small role in the series, and partially because his ability is very Ni in nature. There are two types of psychic abilities in the series, and his specific type is called “fixation” which allows him to eliminate “all other possibilities limiting the possible outcomes.” That’s practically the definition of Ni. At a certain point, one begins to wonder where the lines are between personality and power. (A common problem since authors like to intertwine the two.) With his ability in mind, Mitsuru appears to be an average INTJ. His ability provokes him to fixate on the future. He sees himself as a slave to the future and its outcome. He becomes a bomber, and uses his ability to ensure that he will always be successful.

Mitsuru is very precise when it comes to enacting his plans, such as synchronizing the hands on all three clocks during one of his bombing. He also enacts a plan within a plan in an attempt to catch Shiki, which is a common approach for Ni dominants. Of course, he keeps himself as distant from the action as possible, only remaining within view of the scene since his psychic ability requires it.

Te:

“My visions are absolute. It can’t be toppled. The order of the world obeys what I see.”

“Everything in life is absolute.”

Mitsuru sees everything in absolute terms. See the above quotes. Obviously, his visions are usually correct, and ergo set in stone. However, he tends to use absolute terminology very frequently and in a broader sense. You can also note terms like “order” which is something Te users desire. Mitsuru is into making plans for all of his jobs to ensure their success.

Older Mitsuru appears very emotionless, acting somewhat dead inside. He’s generally a bit jaded and has a negative outlook on life. He’s blunt and bossy in regards to the girl, Mana. He acts as if he doesn’t want her around, and openly makes statements to this effect directly to her. When leaving from seeing the old lady, he gives her an order, and then turns around to leave, automatically assuming that she would follow. These all point to Te use.

Fi:

Mitsuru takes the loss of his ability somewhat hard, stating that he has been liberated from an absolute future but relegated to a life of failures. This can be attributed to the high personal standards of Fi. Without being able to ensure outcomes like he once could and having nothing but crime in his past, Mitsuru views himself as a useless delinquent (and states this plainly). In addition, after being stopped by Shiki as a child, he changes his name, which can be seen as somewhat symbolic, since he no longer views himself as the same person.

Se:

Mitsuru prefers to remain detached from the sensory world. He tries to leave some of his bombing jobs without physically seeing them through to completion. However, this fails so he is forced to remain on scene, albeit he keeps his distance. Shiki calls him out on the fact that he has to be present and therefore is watching her from somewhere, and it kind of freaks him out.

After failing to kill her, he starts screaming and pressing the detonation button over and over again, to no avail. This can be seen as a display of inferior Se under stress.
